José Luis Chueca
José Luis Chueca Sancho is the principal winemaker at Bodegas Alto Moncayo S.A. and also was for Bodega Borsao S.A. for the last 22 years.
He was born in Tabuenca back in 1970 in a family with a long tradition on wine, as his father and grandfather were also winemakers in the Campo de Borja area. He studied Winemaking in the School and Museum of the Vineyards in Madrid during 1988 through 1991.
“The Garnacha has no secrets for him and so, he has become one of the best specialists in Garnacha in the world”.

Miguel and his family have always believed in the potential of the Garnacha, protecting their heritage. Nowadays they own 120 hectars of old vines.
His life and great passion is to experiment with old vineyards and turn them into great wines.
Miguel Sanmatín has been working in the winery since the beginning, he founded Alto Moncayo together with his father and other partners in 2002. Alto Moncayo is a boutique winery, focused on Garnacha, that produces three spectacular wines.
These wines have achieved international records:
- Vetaton Top 100 in the list of Wine Spectator 2017.
- Alto Moncayo Top 100 in Wine Spectator 2003.
- Alto Moncayo 2007 & 2009 100 points by Robert Parker.
Sergio Chueca
Titles of higher technician in viticulture and technician in olive oil and wine production at IES La Laboral (La Rioja).
Winery and field operator at Bodegas El Grifo and
Bodegas Alto Moncayo from 2018 to the present.
